West Sumatra Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in alliance with Mercy-Corp Indonesia under its program, Technical Assistance and Training Teams (TATTs), held a workshop on management mechanism of Pool of Facilitator in Grand Zuri Hotel Padang, Mei 28th.

Pool of Facilitator (PoF) is a group of facilitators or community educators from various backgrounds who have concerns to disaster issues. This group was first initiated by Mercy-Corp Indonesia under TATTs program to bridge over these talented people and the BPBD, especially to establish an effective collaboration to build community capacity in any phases of a disaster management cycle; before, during, and after disaster. Besides, it is also as a knowledge-transfer medium for the members to broaden their knowledge and skills related to disaster.

TATTs is a program of Mercy Corp Indonesia funded by USAID which objective is to ‘Institutionalizing Disaster Preparedness and Management Capacity of  Local Disaster Management Agencies (BPBDs) in Indonesia.

As stated by TATTS’ Senior Program Officer, Maldo Ferro that this workshop was intended to formulate an official and effective collaboration mechanism between the facilitators and BPBD. Therefore, in the future more and more people can contribute positively in an orderly manner to support disaster management efforts leaded by BPBD.

In line with this statement, the recently-inaugurated Head of BPBD, H. Erman Rahman, emphasized that the existence of PoF is essential on the way to assist the provincial government spreading the knowledge and awareness of disaster to the grassroots level both in municipals and regencies of West Sumatera.(fvt)
